If you are intimidated about applying to this retreat, then don’t be. It’s one of the most amazing experiences of my life, as you get to meet new, kind people and learn life-changing skills
Ideja
Future Legacy Project was made up of a series of workshops in Bristol and a free residential retreat!
The structure was:
Taster Sessions
The taster sessions were all about coming along and meeting the FLP team and other potential participants from Bristol and finding out more about what to expect from Future Legacy Project.
Introduction Days
The induction day’s were an amazing opportunity to meet other young women* from Bristol, inspiring women in the STEM and creative industry and learn new skills. We ran some great activities which encouraged everyone to get to know each other and explore some creative technologies.
What to Expect Evening Events
These evenings were a chance for the group to come along and meet with the FLP team and participants ahead of the retreat! We all had dinner together and covered everything from what to bring with you to what activities to expect on the retreat.
Residential Retreat
The Future Legacy Project Retreat is a 4-day, 3-night retreat is based at Folly Farm, which is a beautiful countryside location based 20 minutes from the centre of Bristol. The retreats were a real immersive experience and during our time away we explored how to plan a social action campaign whilst learning all the creative technical skills that you would need to successfully carry it out. There was always an emphasis on mental health and wellbeing and the participants had the chance to build emotional resilience and access support from trained coaches.
An example of what we got up to:
- Podcasting
- Website design
- Panel discussions from women already running social action projects and in STEM careers
- Enterprise
- Learning all about Social Action and Campaigning
- Music and socialising
- Making new friends
- Design workshops (logos & presentations)
- Laser cutting, digital embroidery and, vinly cutting workshops
- Yoga and walks!
Inspire Days
During our Inspire Days, we regrouped to collaboratively work on our projects, build on all the skills that we have learnt on the programme so far, and took part in exciting workshops led by inspiring artists.
Professional Mentoring
Each group had a mentor assigned to them from our friends at Stemettes in London based on the theme of their project. Each group received at least 1 hour of mentoring specifically about their project.
Project Development
During Project Development the cohorts spent time working together in their own time in their project groups to finalise their projects, preparing for our Celebration Event!
Celebration Event
During our Celebration Event, each group presented their projects and ideas to industry professionals and had the opportunity to see the other team’s presentations. It is also a lovely opportunity to come back together with the friends everyone made on the programme! We also held an extra session to debrief and gather participants feedback in an interactive session after the celebration event.
